My new e-book "Sekey on Planet Earth".

The story behind this book begins about 4 years ago, when I started working on a comic strip about a cat from outer space searching for some evil little beings called the Ukee, that have arrived on Earth to eat everything they find in their way.

(This is an example of the original comic strip written in 2009 and in spanish.)

About a year after that I decided to write and illustrate the children’s book based on that original comic strip.
The main character in the story is Sekey. To create this character I was inspired by one of our own cats, Ezequiel, believe it or not she’s a female cat, but how she ended up with that name is another long story. She’s a thin small thing, but with the soul of a true fighter.

(Our cat  Ezequiel)

She arrived at our home 13 years ago as a stray kitten, and in these 13 years she’s overcome many diseases and physical hardships. If bravery can be attributed to animals, I think she’s a fine example. That’s why I chose her to be the hero in this story.

(This is an original illustration from the book.)

All the other feline characters in the book are also based on some of our other cats, some have already passed on, some are still with us today.

The book is about friendship specially with someone that is different in some way, and about what true friendship is about, all mixed up with lots of adventures. You can buy it through Amazon.com, clicking on the link below:

My sister - Mi hermana

My little sister is an adventurer. When we were very young she would lead the way into any great adventure that usually involved hanging down from some great height, climbing on something or build some magnificent  (to us at least) fortress from branches.
As she grew older and became an adult, her adventurous spirit took her around the globe.
A few years ago she travelled to New Zealand. There she visited a couple of places where some pretty famous movies were shot.

Hace algunos años viajó a Nueva Zelandia.

(I think a hobbit walked around here...) - (Creo que un hobbit anduvo por aquí...)

(...or maybe he was around here...) - (...o tal vez fue por aquí...)

(And a piano landed here....) - (Y un piano aterrizó aquí...)

She flew on tiny planes, and landed in the middle of nowhere....

Climbed up on horses.... and swam with wild dolphins....

And jumped off a mountain strapped to a guy with wings (no picturess but there’s a neat video where you can see the great landscape and hear her scream, but she wouldn’t let me use it :)
I guess this is my way of showing her how much I admire and love her.... And to tell her that I used one of her New Zealand pics to make this illustration.

Illustrations for an Ipad application

Several months ago I did the illustrations for "Hare and Tortoise" by Aesop, an app developed by Top Creations. The app is both in english and greek.

ferocious- Illustration Friday

This week's topic for Illustration Friday is "ferocious".
Sometimes being ferocious has nothing to do with strength or size. But it's more about an attitude.

This is the initial sketch I did, I later decided not to include the flowers on top and I added a tooth coming out of the dog's mouth.
